The Brickworks Management Association (BMA) delivered consistent cleaning, greening and maintenance services this month, collaborating with stakeholders and municipal departments to support environmental management, landscaping and infrastructure upkeep within the precinct.
5 Oil and Diesel Spill Responses
Environmental management remained a key focus during the month, with the BMA team assisting with approximately five oil and diesel spill incidents. Prompt intervention and clean-up ensured that environmental risks were minimised and that roads, public spaces and surrounding infrastructure remained safe and operational.
Landscaping, Cleaning & Infrastructure Upgrades
Routine cleaning and greening operations continued across the precinct throughout July. Key activities included:
- Ongoing street and road cleaning
- Verge maintenance along Brickworks Boulevard
- Scheduled grass-cutting programmes
- Weed control and herbicide application
- Maintenance of landscaped areas
- Flower bed improvements around the Command Centre
- Site inspections and corrective maintenance

In addition, unsafe loose-standing poles were removed and damaged signage infrastructure was repaired and straightened to enhance both safety and precinct presentation. Several important maintenance projects also progressed during the month, including:
- Perimeter fence repairs β with dedicated day- and night-shift security in place to protect repair works
- Fibre infrastructure works were completed and signed off
- The Command Centre biometric access system was installed
- Fault-finding and repairs continued on precinct lighting and entrance signage
Fire Suppression Infrastructure Remains a Priority
Fire suppression systems underwent ongoing testing, maintenance and auditing during July. Both pump houses were tested, with implementation of temporary specialist measures where required during repair and successful restoration and recommissioning of the system.

Through continued collaboration between the BMA and eThekwini Municipality, the precinct remains positioned to support ongoing growth while maintaining critical infrastructure standards.
