Enhancing Visibility and Cleanliness in The Brickworks

Posted on 27/08/2025

The past few weeks in August have seen a strong focus on public realm care and landscape maintenance across The Brickworks precinct. The Idube team, supported by mechanical equipment and manual efforts, tackled a variety of tasks aimed at improving visibility, safety, and overall precinct appearance.

Major Embankment Clean-Up: N2 Overpass Area

One of the standout projects this month was the large-scale clean-up near the N2 overpass on Old North Coast Road. This area had been gradually overrun by Arundo Donax (Spanish Reed), a highly invasive plant species. With the help of a bobcat, the team cleared the area, levelled the ground, and removed this aggressive plant material.

This intervention not only restored the site’s visual appeal but also significantly improved visibility and safety for vehicles and pedestrians moving through the underpass. The result is a visibly neater, more welcoming precinct entry point.

Ongoing Verge, Fence Line and Garden Maintenance

The landscaping team also carried out verge maintenance and grass cutting along the precinct’s freeway-facing boundaries, keeping these high-visibility areas in top shape. Throughout August, the entire fence line was sprayed for weeds, and flowerbeds and verge areas were watered to combat the dry winter conditions and support plant health.

In a separate project, the team also undertook the removal of rubble and debris from verges and common areas, helping to maintain a clean, uncluttered environment.

Stormwater Drain Cleaning and Weed Control

With a break from the rains, the team used the dry spell to clean out stormwater drains across the precinct—removing accumulated litter and debris to ensure proper flow and reduce the risk of blockages during future rain events.

Additionally, weed control efforts ramped up with manual weeding across key verge areas. This hands-on approach ensures a more thorough and lasting result, helping to keep the precinct neat and well-groomed.

As spring approaches, these foundational efforts will support upcoming landscaping growth and allow for more targeted enhancements in the weeks ahead. We thank the Idube team for their consistent, high-quality work in keeping The Brickworks precinct clean, safe, and professional.
