August brought much-needed progress on storm preparedness in The Brickworks precinct. A key success was the first real test of the newly constructed dam weir during recent rains. The structure performed exactly as intended, managing stormwater effectively and supporting broader wetland rehabilitation efforts. This milestone confirms the precinct’s growing resilience to heavy rainfall and flash flooding.
The Idube team also prioritised stormwater inlet clearing during the dry spell, removing litter, silt and debris from key drainage points. In total, over 400 bags of litter were collected throughout the month, with nearly one-third of that removed directly from stormwater inlets. These efforts are critical to preventing water build-up and localised flooding during heavy rainfall events
Repairs were also made to the water control bags at the end of Brickworks Boulevard, further strengthening flood mitigation measures ahead of the peak rainy season.
VERGE Maintenance
Scheduled verge maintenance continued in key areas, including grass cutting along fence and boundary lines. With vegetation growth increasing, the team has worked to keep the precinct looking neat and accessible, particularly along main roadways and high-visibility areas.
Manual weeding and replanting efforts were carried out across several garden beds and verge zones. The team’s hands-on approach ensures more effective weed removal while helping new plants establish in drier winter conditions. All flowerbeds and verge areas were watered to support growth and maintain the precinct’s landscaped appearance.
As we enter a wetter season, the work completed in September sets a solid foundation for resilience. With stormwater infrastructure in good working order, well-maintained verges, and cleared drainage lines, The Brickworks is well-positioned to handle the environmental demands of Summer.
